Cara Stainthorpe

Social Worker

Helping children feel understood, build confidence, and find their way forward.

Sometimes, your child may be struggling with big feelings, anxiety, friendships, school, transitions, or simply managing everything that life seems to throw their way. You may see the frustration, worry, or overwhelm—but not always know what to do next. That’s where Cara can help.

Cara creates a warm, playful, and supportive space where children can feel safe being themselves, make sense of what they’re experiencing, and develop practical tools to navigate life with greater confidence. She works collaboratively with children and their parents, helping families understand what is happening beneath the behaviour and discover strategies that actually fit their child.

With more than a decade of experience supporting children, families, and groups, Cara brings a unique combination of clinical expertise and education to her work. As both a Registered Social Worker and Ontario Certified Teacher, she understands children not only from a therapeutic perspective, but also within the worlds they navigate every day—at home, at school, and with their peers. She is also a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner, allowing her to use creativity and play to help children express feelings that can sometimes be difficult to put into words.

Cara draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, strengths-based approaches, and therapeutic arts, tailoring her approach to each child’s personality, needs, and goals.

She supports children ages 4–12 with concerns including:

  • Anxiety and worries

  • Emotional and self-regulation

  • Attention and focus

  • Coping skills

  • Friendships and peer relationships

  • Family relationships

  • School-related challenges

  • Transitions and change

  • Self-compassion and confidence

  • Sensory needs

  • Sleep and stress

Most importantly, Cara believes therapy doesn’t have to feel like hard work all the time. She brings warmth, creativity, collaboration, and even moments of joy into the therapeutic process—helping children discover their strengths while giving parents practical ways to support them along the way.

Outside of work, Cara enjoys spending time with her family, being in nature, practicing yoga, and creating art.
