Tabatha May
Social Worker
Behind every behaviour is a story worth understanding.
When your child is struggling with big emotions, anxiety, anger, frustration, behaviour, or family conflict, everyday life can begin to feel overwhelming. Communication can become difficult, routines may feel harder to manage, and families can find themselves feeling disconnected, stuck, or unsure of how to respond when emotions run high.
Tabatha believes that children’s behaviour is communication. Taking the time to understand what is happening beneath the behaviour can help children feel understood and supported, while giving caregivers practical tools to navigate challenging moments with greater confidence and connection.
Tabatha supports children, youth, couples, and families experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, family conflict, anger, aggression, parenting challenges, and difficulties with coping or relationships. She is passionate about helping children build confidence, emotional regulation, coping skills, resilience, and stronger relationships.
Her approach is attachment-informed, developmentally responsive, strengths-based, and non-pathologizing. Tabatha draws from evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).
Depending on a child’s developmental stage and individual needs, she also incorporates art and play-based activities, somatic regulation tools, visual supports, and practical skill-building.
Caregiver support is an important part of Tabatha’s work. She collaborates with parents and caregivers around validation, limit-setting, co-regulation, and communication, helping families better understand one another and create more emotionally safe and connected relationships.
Tabatha is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and graduate of King’s University College Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Over the past five years, she has worked in shelters, inpatient mental health facilities, and community counselling settings, supporting children, youth, and families experiencing complex relational and mental health challenges. Her additional training includes TF-CBT, DBT, EFFT Essentials, Circle of Security Facilitation, and ASIST Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.
Most importantly, Tabatha strives to create a warm and supportive space where children feel understood and caregivers feel equipped. She believes the goal is not perfect parenting or perfect behaviour, but stronger relationships, greater emotional safety, and a family life that feels more manageable and connected.
Outside of therapy, Tabatha loves listening to live music, hiking, and getting creative with crafts! :)
