Courtney Ball

Occupational Therapist

Helping children turn “I can’t” into “I can!”

When your child wants to do something but their body, attention, or emotions seem to get in the way, it can be hard to know how to help. Maybe getting dressed becomes a struggle, handwriting is frustrating, brushing teeth turns into a battle, or school and play don’t seem as easy for your child as they are for others. You know your child is capable—you just need to figure out what’s getting in the way and how to help them move forward.

That’s where Courtney can help.

Courtney is a Registered Occupational Therapist who specializes in helping children build the skills they need to participate more confidently in the everyday activities that matter most to them. Her approach is child-centred, individualized, and fun, combining play, movement, and hands-on learning to help children develop skills without making therapy feel like another task they have to struggle through.

Courtney works closely with both children and their parents to understand the why behind the challenges. Together, they identify practical solutions that fit naturally into the child’s real life—not just what happens in the therapy room. Whether the goal is improving handwriting, getting dressed independently, managing big emotions, participating at school, or feeling more confident in play, Courtney helps families find strategies that are realistic, meaningful, and achievable.

With a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from McMaster University, Courtney has been a Registered Occupational Therapist since 2018. She began her career as a school-based Occupational Therapist, where she gained extensive experience supporting school-aged children, completing sensory assessments, and recommending equipment and strategies to help children succeed. She has also worked with older adults through a family health team, but her passion has always been working with children. There is nothing she loves more than watching a child discover a new ability and realize, “I can do this!”

Courtney provides play-based occupational therapy for children ages 2 and up, supporting children with:

  • Fine motor and handwriting difficulties

  • Autism

  • ADHD and attention challenges

  • Developmental Coordination Disorder and other movement difficulties

  • Anxiety

  • Self-regulation

  • Sensory and participation challenges

  • Everyday self-care skills

She has additional training in Handwriting Without Tears and anxiety and autism, allowing her to tailor therapy to each child’s unique strengths and needs.

Courtney believes therapy should be a place where children feel successful. She creates a welcoming, accessible, and enriching environment where children can move, play, explore, problem-solve, and build skills at their own pace. Most importantly, she helps children recognize their strengths and gives families practical tools they can carry into everyday life. Because sometimes the goal isn’t simply to help a child complete a task.

It’s to help them believe they can.

Outside of the clinic, Courtney is an avid dog lover. She grew up with dogs and now shares her adventures with Cedar, her Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. Together, they love staying active, exploring nature, and especially going for hikes.
