Josephine Makinde

Social Worker

When behaviour is hard to understand, Josephine looks deeper.

Watching your child struggle with big emotions, anxiety, friendships, behaviour, or confidence can leave you feeling helpless and unsure of what to do next. Children and teens don’t always have the words to explain what they’re experiencing, and sometimes their behaviour is the only way they know how to communicate that something isn’t right.

Josephine believes there are no bad people—only people with unmet needs, difficult experiences, or challenges they may not yet have the tools to navigate. She takes the time to understand what is happening beneath the behaviour, helping children and families find healthier ways to cope, communicate, and connect.

With more than eight years of experience supporting children, youth, adults, and families, Josephine brings a wealth of experience to her practice. She is particularly passionate about working with children, teens, and families, supporting concerns such as anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, self-esteem, social challenges, behavioural concerns, and life transitions.

Josephine also works with adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, burnout, relationship difficulties, and major life changes. Her approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and collaborative, drawing from evidence-based therapies including CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused therapy, and play-based interventions.

Her additional training includes Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Crisis Intervention, Advanced Concurrent Disorders, Trauma-Informed Care, and working with complex clients experiencing addictions. This specialized training strengthens her ability to support clients through both everyday challenges and more complex or difficult periods in their lives.

Most importantly, Josephine strives to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, understood, and valued. She works alongside clients and families to build practical skills, confidence, resilience, and hope—so they can move forward feeling more equipped to handle life’s challenges.

Outside of therapy, Josephine is guided by a simple belief from Maya Angelou: “People will never forget how you made them feel.”
