Mishal Javed

Social Worker

When your child is struggling to understand their emotions, Mishal helps make sense of what’s underneath.

Anxiety, anger, big emotional reactions, worries, friendship struggles, or changes in behaviour can leave children and teens feeling overwhelmed—and parents wondering what happened to the happy, confident child they know. For children navigating ADHD or other neurodivergent experiences, these challenges can be even more difficult when they feel misunderstood or are struggling to keep up with the demands around them.

Mishal helps children and youth understand themselves, build practical coping skills, and develop greater confidence in navigating life’s challenges. She creates a warm, supportive environment where young people can explore their emotions without judgment, while working alongside parents and caregivers to better understand their child’s needs and find strategies that actually work at home.

Mishal holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and is a Registered Social Worker with experience supporting children, teens, and families in community mental health settings. She practices from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based perspective, recognizing that every child’s experience is unique.

Mishal has extensive experience supporting children and families navigating ADHD and neurodiversity, including both diagnosed and suspected neurodevelopmental differences. She also has specialized training in body-image concerns and disordered eating behaviours, using an anti-weight-bias approach grounded in body and food neutrality. When appropriate, she collaborates with physicians and dietitians to support a young person’s emotional well-being, body respect, and relationship with food.

Her therapeutic approach draws from CBT, trauma-focused CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Parent Management Training, and solution-focused therapy. She supports children ages 4+, teens, and parents/caregivers with concerns including anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, anger outbursts, fears and phobias, attention and focus, sleep, stress, and family and peer relationships.

Mishal’s goal is to help children and teens feel understood rather than defined by their challenges—and to give both young people and their parents the tools, confidence, and understanding to move forward together.
