Vicki Sooy
Registered Behavior Analyst
Vicki believes that all children have the capacity to learn and that it’s our job as caregivers and educators to find out what motivates them! She believes that learning should be fun and sees the best outcomes when children learn in their natural environment and are supported by a team that collaborates together. Although she has been in the field for over 25 years, there has not been two learners that are the same. She finds this the most challenging and rewarding part of her job!
Before attaining her RBA, Vicki started out as a therapist in a private school in Virginia - the first private school in the US to specialize in serving preschoolers with autism. After 6 years, she was invited to teach in a public school with their first ever pilot classroom for preschoolers with autism. Since then, she has also served in supervisory, teaching, and consulting roles, both with school districts and with families. She has provided a broad range of services including 1:1 therapy, consultation to families, and supervision/training to therapy teams. She feels lucky to have had the opportunity to work in both public and private sectors because she realizes that teaching can look differently depending on environmental limitations and there needs to be multiple approaches on how to address problem behaviours. She is recognized and meets all the standards of the Ontario Autism Program and listed as a provider for behaviour analyst and clinical supervisor.
In her free time, Vicki enjoys spending time with her family and keeping up with her two very active boys and their puppy! She feels that moving to Canada has been one of the best decisions she has made and feels very fortunate to be working with the incredible staff at Brilliant Minds Counselling and Therapy Centre.
